These are my second pair of Garmont's Dakota Lites. The first pair I've had about six years, and they are the best backpacking boots for off trail cross country travel in the High Sierras that I have ever owned.
I bought these new Dakota's in order to reitire the old ones to day hiking. Both pairs are 11.5 men's US sizing, but for some reason the new pair are too tight around my right big toe. I day hiked in them for a day, noticed the problem and switched to a thinner sock for a second day of day hiking, and then realized i needed a pair of the size 12. I bought those and they fit great. I would say that these run slightly small to size. My right foot is longer than my left foot, and the left boot fits fine. I do like to wear expedition socks with a thin liner. The new boots are even better than the earlier version. I just checked online to see about buying another size 12 pair for storing away until these ones lose their stiffness, but apparently Garmont has discontinued them. Bummer! If you like really stiff and really light backpacking boots, no boots I've tried can compare to these.
