The Bern Brighton Hard Hat helmet, designed specifically for women, is engineered primarily for low impact, non-motorized action sports and water sports in particular. The helmet comes with a white Bern beanie and a mesh storage bag.
While the Brighton Hard Hat can be used year 'round, it offers minimal --- but perhaps adequate --- protection for skiing, snowboarding, biking and skating/skateboarding, although it is not formally certified for these activities. On the other hand, it is lightweight, sleek and comortable. And perhaps most importantly, it is a terrific alternative to not wearing a helmet at all for those pretty much able to stay upright with perhaps only the occasional lower force impact tumble. It is formally certified for kayaking, canoeing and other water-based sports.
The Brighton is constructed of a strong ABS plastic shell and moldable, water-resistant EVA covered Brock Foam. ABS is very resistant to physical impacts and corrosion, which allows the helmet to withstand heavy use and adverse environmental conditions. ABS is also recyclable. Unlike EPS and its other rigid foam counterparts --- the soft Brock Foam rebounds from multiple impacts, allowing the helmet to retain its protective specs so long as the shell is intact. What makes the Brighton ideal for water sports is that the Brock Foam is also highly breathable, doesn't retain water and dries quickly.
Another benefit of the Brock Foam is that its compressibility provides a more comfortable, customized fit relative to rigid foams. Bern's signature Sink Fit® design allows the helmet to sit more securely lower on the head so you don't feel like a mushroom or look like a space ship has landed on your noggin. Twelve fixed vents provide “3D” ventilation and a quick adjust webbing chin strap which closes with a strong Fastex®-type two-part side-release buckle add to the Brighton high level of comfort and performance. A removable goggle or sunglass strap clip rounds out the features of this fine helmet.
CONDITION, FIT & SIZING: The helmet has been tried on but never used. Likewise the beanie has never been worn. Both have been stored in a smoke-free, climate-controlled area since being purchased. It is a women's small for a recommended stated head size (circumference) range of 53.5-55.5 cm/ 21.06”-21.85” or roughly a hat size of 6 ¾ -6 7/8. The beanie is a medium. It is strongly suggested that unless you are certain that your head size falls within the recommended range, you measure the circumference around the widest point of your head, over your temples and to the back several times with a soft tape measure. Bern helmets tend to fit slightly tighter so please keep that in mind. Also consider if you are likely to wear the beanie or other headgear and remember that the foam will give some over time, although you can obviously adjust the chin strap accordingly. If you've never worn a helmet before, you might also want to try on one or two --- preferably Bern, if possible --- at your local sporting goods store. The Brighton Hard Hat weighs in at a stated 445 g or about one pound.
