The 2021 Consignment Trend Report
Our inaugural year of consignment sales has wrapped, and it was a doozy. Y’all delivered by sending us countless items in great condition, from jackets to jerseys to ski boots, daypacks, helmets, and climbing shoes. All in solid resellable condition, ready for us to list and sell for you, then share the rewards. Buyers won out big-time too, getting great gear they could take adventuring without breaking their budget.
Here’s a recap of what came in—and what’s now on our shelves ready for its next person.
Bike jerseys and bottoms
Many of our dear Geartrade users out there realized they owned more bike clothing than they regularly wore, so they cleaned it up fresh and sent it in to us for resale. Those jerseys and bottoms sold like hotcakes—everything from full-zip jerseys to short-sleeved tops, padded shorts, long tights, and everything in between. As spring cycling season approaches, you don’t need to buy new. Think UnNew when you refresh your kit with some good-looking, high-performance duds.
Hiking and climbing pants
Vital for any outdoor person’s wardrobe, yet silly-overpriced when new, hiking and climbing pants came in in droves via our consignment program this year. We received high-performance items from brands like PrAna, Mountain Hardwear, Outdoor Research, Black Diamond, Gramicci, Marmot, Fjallraven, and more. While this stuff’s in stock, you just might do well to grab next year’s adventure pants.

It’s one of the most versatile items in your gear closet—a good day-pack can serve you well on any hike, climb, bike ride, or travel day. Which is why we’re so stoked that we received a ton of day packs this year on consignment. Whether you need a minimalist running vest from Ultimate Direction, a hiking pack from The North Face, or a climbing pack from Blue Ice, we probably have just the right thing in stock thanks to consignment aficionados.
Performance shirts and button-downs
A good shirt is hard to find. But right now on Geartrade, you can score a solid tech tee, short-sleeved button-down, long-sleeved button-down, or any other variety of outdoor top—for a fraction of retail. There are tons of goodies from brands like Exofficio, L.L. Bean, Pendleton, Mountain Khakis, Icebreaker, Toad & Co., The North Face, and more. Stock up your closet without depleting your reserves.

One of the most expensive gear purchases you’ll ever make, alpine ski boots hurt bad when you buy ‘em at full retail. That’s why UnNew is so exciting here on Geartrade. You can search by the brands and models most likely to work for you, then find a great boot at a price you can actually afford. All the big names are listed. And, a word to the wise–you can typically heat-mold a boot more than once, so get something that’s close, then take it into your local trusted ski shop for fine-tuning.
If it’s time to invest in a fresh ski jacket, look no further than UnNew. Geartrade people sent in excellent waterproof ski/board jackets this year, from every brand imaginable, including Arc’teryx, Patagonia, The North Face, Burton, Volcom, Outdoor Research, and more. Think big and consider a decked-out resort jacket, light’n’minimal touring jacket, four-season shell jacket, breathable softshell, or whatever you fancy to round out your kit.

Feet are funny. Many people buy new running shoes only to learn they don’t fit their feet quite right. Then, they list these perfectly good, usable shoes on Geartrade for a fraction of retail. It’s your big chance to swoop on light, grippy, stable shoes from major brands like Salomon, La Sportiva, Hoka One One, Nike, Saucony, Asics, New Balance, and more. Runners, gear up and get ready to charge.
