Mad River - Mad River Escape Folding Canoe 16 ft. 5in.

Mad River Escape Folding Canoe 16 ft. 5in. Identical to current Pakboat 165 model see http://www.pakboats.com. Mad River sold these for a few years then got out of the folding canoe line. Pakboat has been at it since 1984. This is a quality boat, one you can trust when you are days or weeks from civilization.
Serial MD16318D696 indicates it was made in 1996. Very little use is evident. The boat is in terrific shape. There was a minor tear at the bow which I repaired according to Pakboat direction.
The boat is super light but a real packhorse. Ideal for really getting into the wilderness via horse or bush plane. Also ideal for those without storage for a 16+ foot object. It will fit in your closet and car trunk.
See pakboats for setup instructions. The only difference is that Pakboat color codes some parts and the Mad River doesn't - or the color wore off. Setup and breakdown are not bad, especially with some practice.
Comes with one pedestal seat. This seat is like the pakboat pedestal seat except that the top is plywood and foam rather than woven straps. Otherwise identical and very comfortable. As noted below, this is a nice solo boat. If you want a tandem setup, a Pakboat seat is $90.
Comes with Carry bag. Approx. 16 x 16 x 36.
This boat currently sells for $2015. Asking $1250.

| Question: |
Do you have more photos of the canoe? In particular photos of the repair and the hull? Where is the canoe located? I am located in Michigan and I travel to Sioux Falls quite a lot. Why are you getting rid of the canoe?
Thanks,
Scott |
| Answer: |
Yes, I have pictures. Please give me your email and I'll send them. The repair was about an inch separation between the keel fabric strip and the gunwhale fabric strip. It did not extend down into the hull fabric area. I bought a piece of the same fabric from Pacboat and glued it over the tear on the outside then folded it over the top to the inside and glued that down. I actually spoke with Alf, the owner at Pacboat, about how to do this fix. I was planning an gluing and then taking it to an upholstry shop and having it sewn. He said the glue would be more than enough, especially since I was glueing inside and out. The boat is in Helena, MT. I bought it thinking my wife and I might do some trips with it. But we already have a Mad River Revelation and a raft and we each have a tandem IK. Among them, we can do any river we want. So, we just don't need a folding canoe.
Thanks for your interest. Please let me know what else I can tell you.

Hi Bret,
My email address is: scott@mapobject.com .
If you can send me more photos, that would be great!
By the way, are you letting other accessories go with the canoe like oars, yoke, etc?
Thanks,
Scott |
